Upon retiring from Engelhard and the United States Army Thurmond found pure joy in doing things outside in his shop and doing tasks for others whether you chose to pay him or not. Now he took his time getting it done but he accomplished the projects “Well at least most of them”. Thurmond was called home on July 24, 2023. He was preceded in death by: his daughters, La-Wandra Bradley and Anitra Bradley; his son, Roderick Bradley; his mother, Mary Lessie Carter Bradley; father, W. D. Bradley, Sr., sister, Pattie Bradley Johnson; and brother Willie Earl Bradley.
