Noland L. Smith was born on January 22, 1961 to the late Sarah Smith and the late Brutus Noland Jackson.
Noland lived his formative years in Vicksburg, MS. He was baptized at the age of 13 and this began his work in the church. Noland said that during that time he cut the grass, dusted the pews, ushered and even sang in the choir. This was just the beginning of his service to his community.
Noland’s love for his service and his need to be a support to his family helped him make the decision to join the United States Marine Corps in 1979. During his time he received a combat action ribbon, Navy and Marine Corps achievement medal (with 4 gold stars), a Southwest Asia medal holding two bronze stars, two Kuwait liberation medals from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, just to name a few.
Noland continued his service to God and became an ordained deacon while serving in the military. He served as an ordained deacon for 30 years. After retiring from the military, he returned to Vicksburg and continued to serve at his church. Additionally, he mentored youths with disabilities, taught JROTC and coached the swim team at Warren Central High school while serving as a Cornerstone. He was dedicated to countless programs, social committees, political campaigns and anything for his hometown which he loved.
Noland Smith was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
He is survived by: his wife, Augusta Smith; children, Ashley SSG(Ret) (Tressey), Noland Joe, and Amber Letrece MAJ(P), and one child he raised as his own, Andre; 1 brother, 1 sister, 2 sisters-in-love, grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
